Friday!

I slept like a tranquilized dead thing last night, it was amazing. Imitation down doesn’t mess around. I’m a poet and I didn’t even know it.

FRIDAY! And Veterans Day. So happy veterans day. Yesterday I caught a guy at the office wearing a little bitty sticker that said USMC on it with balloons and little squigly lines. Turns out that yesterday was the birthday of the Marine Corps. This guy had a face that a huge smile looked natural on and clearly felt good about things. In another twenty years, he could grow a beard and be Santa at Macy’s and no kid would cry on his lap. Not in front of that smile. He’d been in for 20 years, started out as a grunt in the infantry, finagled his way into counter-intelligence, went to college for finance, graduated and became an officer, went back for his masters, worked for the USMC in finance, retired and now works here in Raleigh for about one week out of the year. He travels internationally for most of the rest of the year. He was pretty thrilled with life. I’m a fan.

The man milked it! Semper fi.

In other news, the kids in my neighborhood are a little too cute for words. EG:

We love Happy Jen! Those neighbor kids would be thrilled to know you took photos of their espionage work. And that you STOPPED when you were supposed to.

Cute. Publicizing their lessons learned at school (L00k both ways before . . . and green means go). But good advice for us grownups too.

And thanks for the Vets Day addon. The big smile guy obviously landed on his feet!
